EnergySmart Grocer – Video
Recently I came across this white paper titled “Cutting the Refrigeration ‘Juice’in Pacific Northwest Groceries“. This study reported on the results of efforts to reduce energy use in Supermarkets and Grocery stores, specifically though energy savings in commercial refrigeration.
Like many areas of the country, the Pacific Northwest is anticipating a significant increase in the regional population which translates into increased demand for energy. To help with this problem of limited resources and expanded energy demand, in 2007 Portland Energy Conservation, Inc (PECI ) was brought in to implement it’s very successful EnergySmart Grocer program.
It’s been found in study after study that energy use related to commercial refrigeration is high. Typically over 50% of a supermarket’s energy consumption is related to refrigeration, so there is abundance of opportunities to assist the grocery owner in identifying how to save energy.
